Registration is now open for our Spring Break and Summer Camps. To reserve a seat at the early bird low low price of $250, please sign up on one of the camp event pages listed under the Camps menu above.
Our first camp is held the Easter Spring Break week of March 28 and features a variety of STEAM activities. Students will start with a challenge of creating an online interactive story or game animated with the Scratch system. Game design can be challenging so we have a fun program to introduce all of the core concepts. In past years we found that kids loved this so much, it actually distracted them from Minecraft! Yes, we have Minecraft available but not what they expect… Our worlds are set up with design and programming challenges that teach core STEM topics including programming in Python, Java, and JavaScript. This camp will be repeated the week of June 22.
If a taste of Minecraft is not enough, sign up for a full week of programming and playing with custom mods and challenging worlds. Campers the week of July 18-22 can learn to build and manage a Linux server to host their own world.
And we end our summer with a full week of robotics on August 8-12, just in time for the 2016-17 season of FIRST LEGO League. FLL is a competitive team program for kids 9 to 14 that is held every Fall. This year the MakerSpace hosted four teams, and supported several more school programs. We had one team advance to the state championship and we’re hungry to return! Each camper will have their own complete LEGO Mindstorms kit and will partner with teammates to learn design, engineering, programming, and tactical FLL skills. This camp is also great even if you are not a participant in FLL. We’ll end the week with a sumo bot competition!.
If you don’t have a summer week of STEAM planned, think about joining one of our camps. We have a great curriculum of activities that the kids will enjoy!
