First Lego League is an international organization where kids aged 9 to 14 learn how to solve problems through teamwork and technology. The Greenbelt MakerSpace FLL teams meet on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 7 p.m., on Thursdays from 5:30 to 7 p.m., and on Saturdays from 12:30 to 2 p.m.
From the First Lego League website:
“In FLL, the children do the work; like program an autonomous robot (using the LEGO® MINDSTORMS® robot set) to score points on a thematic playing surface, create innovative solutions to a problem, all while being guided by the FLL Core Values. These three elements – the Robot Game, Project, and FLL Core Values – make up what we call our yearly Challenge.”
This year’s Challenge is called Trash Trek. Greenbelt kids, who already know a thing or two about taking care of our environment, will think about trash-related problems and develop an innovative solution to one of these issues.
