FLL Workshop for Coaches and Parents

The Greenbelt MakerSpace will host our first Fall workshop for coaches and parents of FIRST LEGO League (FLL) teams, kids age 9 to 14, on August 15 from 10am to 4pm. We will provide all materials including programming laptops and your choice of NXT or EV3 robot kits. Space is free but limited. Please sign up as soon as you can commit to the date. If you can’t make it that date, let us know and we’ll try to schedule an alternate date.

In early fall, FLL releases a Challenge, which is based on a real-world scientific topic.

Each Challenge has three parts: the Robot Game, the Project, and the FLL Core Values. Teams of up to ten children, with at least two adult coaches, participate in the Challenge by programming an autonomous robot to score points on a themed playing field (Robot Game), developing a solution to a problem they have identified (Project), all guided by the FLL Core Values.

Last year we hosted 4 FLL teams at the MakeSpace, and supported teams in Hyattsville, Bladensburg, and Landover. We have the opportunity to submit proposals for grant funding for new teams, and we provide supporting workshops for both students, coaches, and parents. This year, the research project is “Trash Trek”, a topic that Greenbelt and Prince George’s County students know well as we are the home to the best  environmental movements in the State!
