BBC in school computer giveaway

The BBC will give one million “Micro Bit” microcomputers to secondary students this fall, and launch a season of programs and activities to teach kids how to program, all part of a wider initiative to increase digital skills among young people. 

“The UK is facing a significant skills shortage, with 1.4 million “digital professionals” estimated to be needed over the next five years.”

The BBC has more than 50 partners in their project including Google and Microsoft. Barclays already runs coding session in their branches.

The Micro Bit, programmable in Python, is expected to complement and integrate with other popular micro systems like the Arduino and Raspberry Pi.
